About Us

Loberg Law Office was established in Ellsworth 1976.  Having represented many banks and real estate firms, I noticed more and more were relying on title products.  I saw a need to extend our services to the abstract and title area.

Pierce County Abstract & Title Co., Inc has a long history.  Loretta Erickson of Ellsworth WI owned and operated the company for many years.  She later merged her business with another company and dissolved Pierce County Abstract.  In 1984, my wife, Spring, and I re-established the company and it has been growing ever since.

In the beginning nearly all our work was the updating and creation of abstracts of title.  Initially this was done by a staff of one, then gradually increasing.  In those long ago days, updated abstracts were often reviewed by attorneys and the attorneys gave “title opinions” as to the condition of title as shown by the abstract.  However, as years went on, the lending industry demanded title insurance.  The reason was fairly obvious.  Opinions were only that: opinions.  Attorneys no longer in business, or those who practiced without Errors and Omissions Insurance, offered little assurance to banks that their opinion was “backed up” in the event of a loss resulting from an error in the title opinion.

The business has evolved such that now approximately 99% of our services involve title insurance.  In addition, most lenders now require loans to be closed by a title insurance company operating as an escrow and closing agent.  In our three offices, we now have a total of five “closers” who provide closing services to lenders and sellers/buyers. 

In 2003, we saw an opportunity for expansion and opened a sister office in the city of New Richmond in St. Croix County. Then, in 2005, we expanded to the city of Menomonie in Dunn County.  These three offices roughly form a triangle such that the distance from one is approximately the same as the distance to the another.  This has enabled us to provide services to nearly all of Western Wisconsin and Eastern MN.  It has enabled us to provide help between offices when the need arises.  My wife, Spring, has been a intregral part of the business since its beginning. She plays an active role in maintaining the offices and marketing.  Each of our three offices has been designed and decorated by her.  She owns Town & Country Staging, Inc., and her skill is well reflected in the ambiance, design and functionality of each office.

Recently, my son, Lars, joined Loberg Law Office as an attorney.  He is practicing full-time and assisting in overseeing management of all the title offices.  I am thankful Lars is available to take the reins and carry on this business.

Our staff deserves the credit for our growth and success.  They are devoted, dependable and talented.  Each of our abstractors, examiners and closers have completed the Wisconsin Land Title Association course of instruction leading to certification.  Several are licensed title agents.  Nearly all are notaries.
